Korea's APR Corp. Obtains Dual AI Certifications for Beauty Devices
The Medicube maker claims a global beauty industry first with ISO/IEC 42001 and Nemko's AI Trust Mark for its AGE-R Booster Pro X2 device.

APR Corp. Achieves Dual AI Certifications
APR Corp., the South Korean company behind Medicube skincare and AGE-R beauty devices, announced on Tuesday that it has been awarded two international certifications for its artificial intelligence applications. The Kosdaq-listed firm stated this achievement represents a global first for the beauty industry, with no other company having secured both distinctions.
The certifications aim to validate the integrity of its AI technology and address growing concerns about the authenticity of AI claims in products.
Standards for AI Risk and Product Reliability
The first certification APR Corp. obtained is ISO/IEC 42001, a standard established by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). This standard evaluates a company's effectiveness in managing the risks associated with its use of AI.
The second is the AI Trust Mark, issued by Nemko, a Norwegian testing and certification company. This mark specifically assesses the reliability of AI integrated into a particular product, ensuring its performance meets defined criteria.
AI Care Mode in AGE-R Booster Pro X2
Both certifications apply to the "AI care mode" featured in APR's AGE-R Booster Pro X2 device. This mode is designed to suggest personalized skincare routines and adjust treatment intensity based on the user's skin condition and previous usage data. APR Corp.
stated that the device operates within fixed safety limits, automatically reverts to preset settings if the AI system encounters a fault, and always allows the user to make the final decision regarding their treatment.
The company also noted that the AI Trust Mark assessment aligns with emerging global AI regulations, including the European Union's Artificial Intelligence Act and the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology's AI Risk Management Framework.
Implications for Asian Beauty Brands
APR Corp.'s move to secure these certifications is intended to counter the practice of "AI washing," where companies exaggerate the extent or effectiveness of AI in their products, thereby building trust in its devices. For Asian beauty brands developing AI-powered devices or digital services, this sets a new benchmark for verifiable AI governance and product reliability.
Companies planning to export to markets with stringent AI regulations, particularly in Europe and North America, may find similar third-party certifications increasingly crucial to demonstrate compliance, ensure consumer confidence, and gain market access.
