GDF Plaza Hainan Expands Beauty Offer for Golden Week
Hainan Development Holdings' duty-free retailer introduced EviDenS de Beauté and RéVive, enhancing its luxury skincare range alongside cultural retail events.

Hainan Duty-Free Blends Culture and Retail
Hainan Development Holdings' Global Premium Duty Free (GDF) Plaza in China has launched extensive shopping campaigns to attract travelers during the Mid-Autumn and upcoming Golden Week holidays.
These initiatives combine duty-free retail with traditional Chinese cultural experiences, supporting Hainan's strategic goal of becoming a major international tourism and shopping destination. The program aims to drive engagement and conversion during this peak holiday period.
Activities like an outdoor mooncake-rolling competition, pitch-pot games, and challenge-based store check-ins are designed to immerse visitors in holiday traditions while exploring the retail environment. This approach aims to boost customer engagement and sales.
Luxury Skincare and Fragrance Portfolio Grows
As part of its enhanced offering, GDF Plaza has significantly expanded its beauty brand selection. The duty-free complex now features French skincare brand EviDenS de Beauté and US luxury skincare brand RéVive, both providing member programs, in-store check-in gifts, and experiential services.
Additionally, Runbaiyan introduced a new store showcasing its technology-focused skincare range. The retailer also integrated beauty into its cultural themes, including Pola handcare experiences and a fruit-scented fragrance float featuring products from Jo Malone and Armani, further diversifying its product display.
Digital Engagement and Local Resident Perks
GDF Plaza is employing diverse strategies to engage shoppers, including monthly refreshed exclusive perks under its Islanders’ Day program for Hainan island residents. These benefits include CNY39 (US$5.80) coupons and CNY50 (US$7.45) birthday coupons, driving local engagement.
The retailer is also extending its promotional reach through livestreaming on platforms like Douyin and Meituan. These broadcasts, which will run throughout the seven-day National Day holiday, feature a dual-anchor format combining AI hosts with in-store staff to showcase products and direct online audiences to physical stores.
Future Focus on Integrated Retail Tourism
Looking ahead, GDF Plaza plans to continue developing its 'duty-free plus cultural tourism' model, aligning with the Hainan Free Trade Port's growth and the province's international tourism objectives. Key priorities include refining the overall brand portfolio, creating proprietary marketing initiatives, and improving the customer experience.
The retailer also aims to make greater use of offshore duty-free policies.
For beauty brands targeting the Chinese market, this strategy indicates a sustained focus on luxury and experiential retail in Hainan, suggesting continued opportunities for brands capable of integrating their offerings into a culturally rich shopping environment and leveraging digital engagement channels.
