Jenecell Partners Cosmax for Stem Cell Culture Cosmetics Production
The Korean subsidiary of Alfresa Corporation will leverage Cosmax's ODM capabilities to develop and manufacture premium cosmetics based on bone marrow-derived stem cell culture supernatant, targeting initial sales in Korean hospitals.

ODM Agreement for Premium Bio-Cosmetics
Jenecell, the Korean subsidiary of Japan's Alfresa Corporation, announced on Wednesday, September 14, 2026, that it has formalized an Original Development Manufacturing (ODM) agreement with Cosmax. This partnership is set to focus on the development and production of premium cosmetic lines.
These new products will utilize bone marrow-derived stem cell culture supernatant, a key bio-ingredient. Under the terms of this new agreement, Jenecell and Cosmax will establish a strategic alliance that encompasses all stages from product conceptualization and development through to manufacturing and eventual supply.
Jenecell CEO Joo Hee-seok highlighted that this collaboration provides a foundation to integrate Japanese stem cell culture materials, which Jenecell has secured, with Cosmax's extensive global cosmetics ODM capabilities. This move aims to leverage the distinct strengths of both companies to create differentiated and competitive products within the beauty market.
Sourcing and Market Entry Strategy
The bone marrow-derived stem cell culture supernatant, central to these new cosmetic formulations, was secured by Jenecell in April of this year from Healios K.K., a Japanese biotechnology firm. Healios specializes in the development of cell-based medicines, particularly those derived from bone marrow adult stem cells and induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells.
Jenecell's strategy involves initially introducing these premium cosmetics through major hospitals and clinics across Korea. Following this domestic market entry, the company intends to expand its sales reach into key overseas markets, specifically targeting Japan and the United States.
This phased market approach underscores a focus on clinical validation and a high-end positioning for its bio-cosmetic offerings.
Parent Company Support and Global Vision
Alfresa Corporation President Yusuke Fukujin's presence at the ODM agreement signing ceremony, alongside executives from Jenecell and Cosmax, shows the parent company's strong support for Jenecell's biohealthcare initiatives.
Alfresa Group operates as a significant Japanese healthcare conglomerate, with business interests spanning pharmaceutical distribution, manufacturing, and regenerative medicine, among other healthcare sectors. Jenecell aims to establish cosmetics as an initial pathway to forge broader strategic partnerships both domestically and internationally.
The company plans to progressively expand its business scope beyond cosmetics, ultimately venturing into pharmaceuticals and medical devices, with the goal of building a comprehensive global stem cell-based platform.
Jenecell's corporate philosophy, "FOREVER YOUNG," drives its commitment to developing scientifically-backed and innovative biohealthcare products, enhancing its global competitive standing.
Implications for Asia's Beauty Economy
This strategic ODM agreement provides Jenecell with a robust manufacturing framework, essential for scaling the production of its stem cell culture-based cosmetics and realizing its broader biohealthcare platform ambitions.
For Cosmax, this partnership enhances its portfolio with advanced bio-cosmetic technologies, reinforcing its position as a global ODM leader in premium and scientifically-backed beauty formulations.
The planned market entry through Korean hospitals and clinics offers a valuable precedent for other Asian bio-cosmetic brands seeking to establish credibility and premium positioning.
Furthermore, the collaboration shows a growing trend of Japanese healthcare groups leveraging Korean manufacturing expertise to enter and expand within the dynamic Asian beauty economy, particularly in high-tech ingredient segments.
