L'Oréal and Cosmax Sign Pact for Joint Beauty Product Development
L'Oréal Groupe and South Korea's Cosmax will combine their expertise to develop advanced beauty products. This collaboration focuses on global product development, innovative ingredients, and sensory solutions, linking French science with K-beauty design.

The Strategic Collaboration
L'Oréal Groupe and South Korean manufacturer Cosmax signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to collaborate on advanced beauty product development. The agreement combines L'Oréal's beauty science and consumer insights with Cosmax's K-beauty-inspired product design expertise.
This partnership was one of three business MOUs signed during South Korean President Lee Jae-Myung’s State Visit to France on 8 September. The visit marked 140 years of diplomatic relations between France and South Korea. Nicolas Hieronimus, CEO of L'Oréal, stated that beauty acts as a connection between the two cultures and represents a strategic industry for both nations.
He added that this deepened partnership with Cosmax aims to shape the future of beauty and create new consumer experiences globally.
Key Focus Areas
The collaboration between L'Oréal and Cosmax will center on three specific areas. First, global product development involves joint research and development for products influenced by K-beauty trends, intended for worldwide distribution. This research will leverage L'Oréal's consumer insights and beauty science capabilities.
Second, the partnership will explore and develop new cosmetic raw materials and active ingredients. This pillar aims to bring novel components to future beauty formulations. Third, sensory innovation will focus on creating distinct sensory characteristics and product formats, drawing inspiration from South Korean beauty preferences and trends. This work intends to offer consumers new tactile and experiential aspects in beauty products.
Implications for Asia's Beauty Economy
This alliance between a global beauty company like L'Oréal and a major Korean manufacturer such as Cosmax demonstrates the continued influence of K-beauty in the international market. For Asian beauty brands and manufacturers, this collaboration shows a strategic move towards integrating regional design expertise with global scientific research for wider market reach.
It may drive other Asian OEM/ODM firms to enhance their research capabilities in innovative ingredients and sensory formats to attract similar international partnerships.
The focus on K-beauty-inspired global product development also suggests sustained demand for South Korean beauty concepts, potentially opening new export avenues for ingredient suppliers and packaging companies within Asia aiming to support such large-scale projects.
