Maesa Executive Debuts Anecdotes by Artists Fragrance with Sephora
Dana Steinfeld, Chief Blue Sky and innovation officer at Maesa, launched her new fragrance brand, Anecdotes by Artists, exclusively with Sephora this month, emphasizing perfumers' personal stories.

Anecdotes by Artists Debuts with Sephora
Dana Steinfeld, who serves as Chief Blue Sky and innovation officer at global beauty incubator Maesa, has introduced her first fragrance brand, Anecdotes by Artists. The new line launched this month, September 2026, exclusively through Sephora, available both online and in select physical stores.
Steinfeld brings over two decades of experience in the beauty industry, including previous roles at companies such as Shiseido and Avon, to her new venture.
Perfumer Stories Drive Brand Strategy
Anecdotes by Artists aims to differentiate itself in the competitive fragrance market by prioritizing the perfumers, whom the brand calls "Perfumer Artists." Steinfeld states that while most fragrance brands start with consumer trends or market opportunities, her brand begins with the artist's personal story and creative vision.
This approach allows perfumers to create scents from their own memories and experiences, fostering a deeper connection between the artist, the fragrance, and the consumer.
Vision for Perfumer Recognition
Steinfeld's long-term aspiration for Anecdotes by Artists is to elevate the visibility of perfumers, encouraging consumers to recognize them similarly to how they acknowledge chefs, fashion designers, or musicians. In the near term, the brand focuses on introducing consumers to this distinct way of experiencing fragrance.
Steinfeld identifies differentiation as the primary challenge for beauty brands aiming for longevity, a factor addressed by the brand's unique storytelling model.
Implications for Asia's Fragrance Market
This launch by a beauty veteran with experience at an Asian giant like Shiseido suggests a potential shift in fragrance brand development. Asian beauty brands, operating in similarly saturated markets, may observe Anecdotes by Artists' perfumer-centric model as a strategy for authentic differentiation.
Focusing on the narrative and the creator behind the scent could offer a new avenue for brands to build deeper emotional connections with consumers in Asia, moving beyond trend-driven product cycles.
