Bluemercury Appoints New Merchandising Head
Bluemercury, the luxury beauty retailer, has appointed Stacie Borteck Dattner as its Vice President and General Merchandise Manager for Merchandising. Her new role officially commenced today, 12 October 2026. Dattner will take charge of Bluemercury's brand curation, merchandising strategy, proprietary brands, and vendor marketing efforts.
Her responsibilities include guiding the retailer's assortment and strengthening its specific approach to luxury beauty. She is tasked with identifying, curating, and bringing to market brands, products, and innovations that connect with Bluemercury's clientele. Dattner reports directly to Alexandre Choueiri, the Chief Executive Officer of Bluemercury.
Dattner's Extensive Retail Background
Dattner joins Bluemercury after a nearly two-decade tenure at Bloomingdale's, where she held numerous senior merchandising and leadership positions. Notably, she spent seven years leading the department store's beauty and fragrance division. Her most recent position was Senior Principal, Strategic Capital Planning and Brand Integration.
In this capacity, she collaborated with senior leadership, merchants, and luxury brand partners on capital strategy, significant store projects, and brand integration initiatives.
Her work at Bloomingdale's included upgrading the luxury fragrance assortment, such as the flagship fragrance hall redesign, and initiating a discovery-focused beauty concept designed to introduce consumers to emerging brands and new methods of shopping for beauty products.
Bluemercury's Vision for Luxury Beauty
Alexandre Choueiri, Bluemercury CEO, stated that Dattner's deep understanding of luxury retail, client experience, and strong perspective on beauty will be instrumental in defining the company's next phase. Her expertise will help sharpen Bluemercury's luxury beauty perspective, shape its product assortment, and create a more distinctive experience for clients.
Dattner expressed her long-standing admiration for Bluemercury's unique approach to luxury retail, which makes beauty feel personal and accessible. She aims to build on this foundation by offering a more differentiated point of view, combining iconic and emerging brands with innovative products to continually meet client needs and offer new discoveries.
This appointment supports Bluemercury's ongoing efforts to enhance its luxury positioning and evolve how clients find and experience beauty across its physical stores and digital platforms.
Asian Luxury Retailers Can Review Merchandising Strategies
The appointment of a dedicated merchandising leader by a prominent US luxury beauty retailer like Bluemercury shows a strategic focus on brand curation and client discovery. Asian luxury beauty retailers, particularly those in markets such as Singapore, Hong Kong, or South Korea, can assess their internal structures for similar specialized merchandising leadership roles.
This emphasis on a "distinctive point of view on luxury beauty" and the ability to "identify, curate and bring to market brands, products and innovations" highlights the ongoing importance of a unique brand narrative. Asian beauty brands aiming to enter or expand within Western luxury markets should prioritize clear differentiation and compelling origin stories.
By Q3 2027, Asian retailers could evaluate their current brand portfolios, seeking to integrate novel or niche luxury offerings that align with evolving consumer desires for discovery and personalized experiences, mirroring trends seen in established Western markets.
