Cosmax Joins Universitas Padjadjaran for Indonesia's First Cosmetics Science Degree

Cosmax Partners on New Academic Program

Cosmax, a global original development and manufacturing (ODM) company, revealed its participation in Indonesia’s inaugural undergraduate program for cosmetics science. This initiative, hosted at Universitas Padjadjaran in West Java, aims to cultivate local research and development capabilities within the beauty sector.

Cosmax will function as an industry partner for the new bachelor’s program in cosmetology. This course is Indonesia's first university offering specializing in cosmetics, designed to cover the comprehensive cosmetics R&D process. Its curriculum spans from fundamental research on skin and hair to advanced formulation development and efficacy testing.

Joint Research on Native Ingredients

The collaboration also includes Cosmax's role as an industry partner in the Academia-Business-Government program. This government-led initiative focuses on commercializing academic research findings. Through this segment of the partnership, Cosmax Indonesia and Universitas Padjadjaran will expand joint research efforts.

These efforts will specifically utilize Indonesia’s native biological resources. Projects are slated to include the development of antioxidant ingredients derived from tempoyak, a traditional fermented durian product. Additionally, they plan to develop skin-brightening ingredients through the fermentation of angkak, a type of red yeast rice.

Practical Training and Market Impact

Beyond academic contributions, Cosmax will provide practical support by aiding the establishment of a teaching factory on the university campus. This facility will offer students hands-on training and experience. The company also plans to conduct year-round internships and recruit local R&D personnel directly from the program.

Cheong Min-kyoung, head of Cosmax Indonesia, stated the company's intention to expand industry-academia cooperation. He claimed this effort would advance technology, enabling Indonesia’s natural resources to become high-value ingredients recognized in global markets.

This development could enhance Indonesia's domestic beauty manufacturing capabilities and its role in the broader Southeast Asian supply chain, potentially reducing reliance on imported raw materials for cosmetic production.
