New Leadership at Douglas Group

Douglas Group has appointed Jean-Marc Bellaiche as its new Chief Executive Officer. Bellaiche will commence his four-year term on November 1, 2026. He succeeds Sander van der Laan, who is retiring after a 36-year career in international retail, including four years spent with the European beauty retailer.

Dr. Henning Kreke, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Douglas Group, stated that this leadership change was carefully prepared to ensure a smooth transition.

Bellaiche's Background and Expertise

Bellaiche brings extensive experience in international retail and luxury to his new role. He began his career at Boston Consulting Group in 1993, where he eventually became Managing Director and Global Leader for the Luxury, Fashion, and Beauty sector. Most recently, he served as CEO of the luxury resort operator Sani/Ikos Group for the past year.

Dr. Kreke highlighted Bellaiche's strong track record across beauty, premium department stores, digital transformation, brand building, and strategy.

Strategic Vision for European Beauty

Douglas Group operates across 22 European countries and holds a leading position in the continent's premium beauty market. Bellaiche expressed enthusiasm for joining the company during a significant period for the beauty industry.

He intends to build on Douglas's existing strengths, which include an extensive omnichannel presence, a large base of loyal customers, and a strong product assortment built on close relationships with beauty brands. His focus will be on driving innovation and necessary changes within a rapidly evolving market.

Legacy and Implications for Asia

Sander van der Laan joined Douglas Group in October 2022. During his tenure, he reorganized the group's supply chain, advanced its digital platforms, and implemented an Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) strategy.

For Asian beauty brands and manufacturers looking to expand into European markets, a new CEO at a major retailer like Douglas Group could signal shifts in sourcing priorities, brand partnerships, or digital strategy.

Companies should monitor Douglas's strategic announcements under Bellaiche's leadership for potential new avenues for market entry or collaboration within the European premium beauty sector.
