Enhancing Data and AI Capabilities

The Estée Lauder Companies (ELC) has expanded its strategic partnership with Microsoft, aiming to strengthen its cloud and data infrastructure while scaling artificial intelligence (AI) adoption across its business.

This collaboration is a key component of ELC’s "One Operating Ecosystem," which integrates shared platforms, connected data, and external partners to support execution across its various brands, regions, channels, and functions. It also aligns with the beauty group’s broader "Beauty Reimagined" strategy.

A central element of this expanded partnership involves ELC’s Unified Data Platform leveraging Microsoft technology to connect data throughout the organization, reduce redundancy, and provide teams with more consistent access to critical business insights.

Driving Growth Through Consumer Insights

The partnership is designed to support three core areas, beginning with new capabilities and growth. ELC's Unified Consumer Data Platform, powered by Microsoft, will help the company deepen its understanding of consumer needs and preferences. By connecting consumer and product data, this technology aims to facilitate the creation and delivery of personalized experiences.

These tailored interactions will span the entire consumer journey, from initial product discovery through to purchase, enabling more targeted engagement and product innovation across ELC’s brand portfolio and diverse markets.

Streamlining Operations and Decision Making

Beyond consumer growth, the collaboration focuses on advancing decision intelligence and boosting productivity and automation. ELC plans to embed AI into various workflows and establish a unified enterprise foundation to improve connectivity across different departments.

This approach seeks to enable more coordinated decisions among marketing, commercial, value chain, and research and innovation teams. Furthermore, ELC is equipping approximately 14,000 employees with secure AI tools, including Microsoft Copilot.

This initiative aims to automate repetitive, manual tasks, allowing teams to become more agile and dedicate their efforts to strategic planning, innovation, and higher-value decision-making.

Implications for Asia's Beauty Sector

This strategic move by The Estée Lauder Companies highlights a growing trend for beauty businesses globally, including those in Asia, to invest heavily in data and AI for competitive advantage.

Asian beauty brands and manufacturers, particularly those with global aspirations or extensive consumer bases, may find it increasingly necessary to adopt similar integrated data platforms and AI tools.

Such technologies can provide deeper consumer insights, optimize supply chains, and enable hyper-personalized marketing at scale, potentially setting new benchmarks for efficiency and customer engagement.

Companies in markets like South Korea, China, and Japan could benefit from evaluating their own digital infrastructure to remain competitive in a rapidly evolving beauty economy driven by advanced analytics and artificial intelligence.
