Galderma Buys ZO Skin Health for US$1.5 Billion, Boosts Aesthetics
The all-cash acquisition, expected to close by early 2027, adds a US physician-dispensed skincare brand with US$330 million in net sales to Galderma's portfolio.

Galderma's Strategic Acquisition
Galderma has reached an agreement to acquire ZO Skin Health, a US-based physician-dispensed skincare brand, for US$1.5 billion. This all-cash transaction involves the full acquisition of ZO Skin Health from its current shareholders, including Blackstone Tactical Opportunities and the Obagi family.
The move is designed to significantly expand Galderma's portfolio in the physician-dispensed skincare segment and reinforce its market standing within dermatology and medical aesthetics. The transaction is currently awaiting regulatory approval and is projected to finalize either in the fourth quarter of 2026 or early 2027.
ZO Skin Health's Market Presence
Founded by dermatologist Dr. Zein Obagi, ZO Skin Health has established a notable global presence. The company generated approximately US$330 million in net sales during the 12-month period ending June 2026. Its operations span across more than 40 countries, supported by an extensive network of over 16,500 professional accounts.
These accounts encompass physicians, medical spas, and online platforms, indicating a strong direct-to-professional distribution model that aligns with its physician-dispensed brand identity.
Bolstering Galderma's Professional Offerings
The integration of ZO Skin Health is expected to complement Galderma's existing brands, such as Cetaphil and Alastin. This strategic addition aims to strengthen Galderma's comprehensive offering across both professional skincare and aesthetic treatments.
Following the acquisition, Galderma intends to dedicate increased commercial investment to support ZO Skin Health's future growth initiatives. This commitment suggests a focus on expanding the brand's reach and product development within its new corporate structure, leveraging Galderma's global resources.
Implications for Asia's Medical Aesthetics Market
This acquisition strengthens Galderma's global position in the rapidly growing medical-grade skincare market, deepening its relationships with dermatologists and aesthetic practitioners worldwide. It also creates new opportunities for international distribution, product innovation, and cross-category growth, particularly alongside Galderma's injectable aesthetics business.
For Asia's beauty economy, this consolidation means increased competition for local medical-grade skincare brands, especially those targeting physician-dispensed channels.
Asian clinics and medical spas may find an expanded range of global professional products available, influencing their procurement decisions and potentially driving demand for similar high-efficacy formulations from regional suppliers.
