KKR Acquires Japan's Ci Flavors Group
Global investment firm KKR has purchased Japanese cosmetics group Ci Flavors from its current shareholders. The transaction includes continued investment from Ci Flavors' founder and CEO, with KKR planning to support further market expansion.

KKR Completes Ci Flavors Acquisition
Global investment firm KKR has acquired Japanese cosmetics group Ci Flavors. The deal involves KKR purchasing shares from existing stakeholders, including Ci Flavors founder Yusaku Horiuchi, L Catterton, eBeauty Group, and Yanagi Capital Partners. Yusaku Horiuchi and Ci Flavors Representative Director and CEO Yoshiaki Okura will reinvest alongside KKR in the transaction.
Ci Flavors, established in 2011, has developed into a significant Japanese beauty and lifestyle brand platform. The company's operations encompass brand sales, OEM manufacturing, direct-to-consumer (D2C) and e-commerce channels, department store retail, and global ingredient procurement.
Portfolio and Market Presence
Ci Flavors' brand portfolio includes names such as &honey, 8 The Thalasso, Ahalo Honey, Amina Mason, unlabel, Sola Weather Care, Theratis, and Moroccan Beauty. These brands span haircare, skincare, body care, and broader lifestyle product categories. The company claims an established presence in Japan's haircare market, particularly for shampoo and hair treatment products.
Ci Flavors also reports growth in overseas sales, with expansion into markets across Asia and North America. This acquisition positions Ci Flavors to leverage KKR's resources for further market penetration.
Implications for Asia's Beauty Market
Eiji Yatagawa, Partner and Head of Japan Private Equity at KKR, stated that Ci Flavors built a "differentiated position" through its "consumer-focused product development capabilities" and "diversified portfolio of brands." KKR plans to utilize its global network and operational expertise to support Ci Flavors' continued growth in Japan and its expansion into international markets.
For Asia's beauty industry, this acquisition demonstrates ongoing investor interest in established regional platforms. Ci Flavors' reported overseas growth, particularly within Asia, suggests KKR will likely accelerate this regional drive.
Asian beauty retailers and distributors should observe Ci Flavors' brand presence as KKR deploys its network for international market entry and growth.
