Partnership for Prestige Skincare

Lotte Duty Free and SK-II have signed a strategic memorandum of understanding (MOU) to expand their prestige skincare collaboration within travel retail. The agreement, executed on 28 September at the TFWA World Exhibition & Conference in Cannes, establishes a framework for personalized consultations, specialized gifting services, and joint marketing campaigns.

Lotte Duty Free Chief Executive Officer Kim Dong-Ha and P&G Global Skincare President SK Lee formalized the partnership. Initial efforts will concentrate on the retailer's Myeongdong Main Store and its flagship boutique at Incheon International Airport, both in South Korea.

Enhanced Consumer Programs

As part of the new MOU, Lotte Duty Free plans to broaden its SK-II product selection at the Myeongdong Main Store. This expansion will feature the introduction of the SK-II Skin Ceremony, a consultation experience where SK-II Skin Experts provide individual skin guidance and product discovery, drawing on the brand's PITERA ingredient.

At the Incheon International Airport flagship, SK-II will launch an exclusive gifting service, allowing customers to personalize purchases with an initial charm and a signature ribbon. These initiatives build on previous joint efforts, including a beauty masterclass in February focused on the Skinpower Re-new collection.

Strategic Collaboration Areas

The MOU outlines five key areas of cooperation designed to improve the travel retail consumer experience. These include boosting customer service and consultation quality, creating distinctive gifting options at the Incheon Airport store, and expanding joint promotions and marketing activities.

Furthermore, the partners will engage in joint business planning and market development, while also exploring new strategic collaboration opportunities. An invitation-only event for VIP customers is scheduled for the Myeongdong Main Store in the first quarter of 2027, showcasing SK-II's heritage and offering personalized guidance from its Skin Experts. This follows six beauty classes held for Lotte Duty Free VIP customers earlier this year.

Implications for Travel Retail in Asia

This deepened partnership reflects both companies' commitment to placing consumers at the center of their travel retail strategies. For Lotte Duty Free, the agreement strengthens its global brand network and product competitiveness, particularly in the South Korean market.

Kim Dong-Ha stated the company aims to maintain its leadership in duty-free by introducing distinctive products and services with global brands. For SK-II, the collaboration with a major Asian duty-free operator like Lotte allows it to craft premium retail experiences for travelers, reinforcing its presence in a crucial market segment.

The focus on personalized services and exclusive offerings indicates a trend toward more experiential retail to attract and retain high-value customers in Asia's travel retail sector.
