Milan Fashion Week Generates Significant Online Value

Milan Fashion Week, which concluded its "spring 2027" collections in September, generated an estimated $311 million in Instagram earned media value (EMV). This figure represents a 27% increase compared to the previous year, according to data compiled by Lefty x Karla Otto. Prada led the brands with $61.2 million in EMV, marking a 34% rise.

Ferragamo followed with $56.3 million, while Gucci achieved $47.9 million, a 51% increase. Celebrity engagement played a crucial role in these results, with Thai actress Faye Peraya's presence at Ferragamo and related social media activity contributing $43.4 million to the brand's EMV. These figures reflect advertising-equivalent exposure, not direct sales.

Brands Introduce New Retail and Client Strategies

Luxury houses focused on strengthening customer connections through innovative retail approaches. Gucci debuted its upcoming store design concept during its September 25 show in Milan, presenting a mock boutique on the runway.

This new concept is scheduled to launch at its renovated Avenue Montaigne location in Paris by late October, with further rollouts planned for other stores.

Bloomingdale’s fashion director of accessories and beauty, Marissa Galante Frank, observed a positive shift at Gucci, noting that a blend of "equestrian prep school energy" balanced its usual "exaggerated sexiness," potentially attracting a broader customer base across both men's and women's segments.

Exclusive Offerings and Product Innovation

Prada engaged its top clients by inviting over 100 individuals to Milan for an exclusive program featuring private cultural visits and dinners. Following its show, the brand offered these clients crocodile handbags with onyx-detailed clasps, inspired by a 1920s design, priced at over $20,000.

Prada's refurbished Galleria complex also provided private shopping, on-site tailoring, and exclusive jewelry services. Meanwhile, Fendi updated its popular Baguette line with new embroidery, buckle details, and materials, also introducing a version sized specifically for mobile phones.

Harrods buyer Simon Longland highlighted a pleated and bejeweled Prada skirt as a season standout, noting the strength of separates over dresses.

Implications for Asia's Luxury Market

The focus on direct client engagement, exclusive product drops, and innovative retail concepts during Milan Fashion Week provides a blueprint for luxury brands operating in Asia. The significant impact of Asian celebrities, such as Thai actress Faye Peraya, on earned media value underscores the growing influence of Asian markets and personalities in global luxury marketing.

Brands aiming to deepen their presence in high-growth Asian markets can adapt these strategies, focusing on personalized experiences and digital content featuring regional influencers to resonate with affluent consumers. While these efforts build brand visibility, retailers like Harrods and Bloomingdale’s did not disclose any immediate increases in their buying budgets.
