Nooni Enters US Retail with Color Cosmetics

K-beauty brand Nooni will launch its Apple Lip Oil at Target stores in the United States on September 6, 2026. The product will be available in eight shades, priced at US$15 each. This move represents Nooni's initial entry into US physical retail.

The brand has chosen to introduce its color cosmetics line rather than its broader skincare portfolio for this expansion, increasing its pace of US mass market expansion this year. Nooni aims to capture a larger share of the American beauty market with this strategic debut.

Capitalizing on Perceived Market Gaps

Nooni CEO Dino Ha stated the company is not entering retail to test demand, as consumers have already shown interest online. The brand identifies a specific opening within Target's current K-beauty offerings. Target’s existing Korean beauty selection reportedly concentrates heavily on skincare. This creates an opportunity for Korean makeup products, according to Nooni.

The launch focuses on filling this perceived gap with color cosmetics, reflecting a strategy to capitalize on unmet demand in a specific product category.

Broader K-Beauty Retail Expansion in the US

Nooni's expansion into US mass retail occurs as other retailers also increase their Korean beauty assortments this year. Ulta Beauty continues to broaden its K-beauty selection. Separately, K-beauty brand Dr.Forhair entered the US market through a partnership with LVMH-owned Sephora.

These parallel movements show a continued interest from major US retailers in expanding their K-beauty category presence. Retailers appear to be diversifying their offerings beyond established skincare lines to include more color cosmetics.

Implications for Asian Beauty Brands

For Asian beauty brands considering US market entry, Nooni’s strategy suggests a viable path for focused category expansion into major US retail chains. This approach prioritizes specific product segments where market gaps exist, rather than launching an entire portfolio.

It highlights the importance for brands to analyze a retailer's existing inventory and consumer demand to inform market entry decisions. This targeted approach could reduce initial investment and streamline market penetration for other K-beauty or C-beauty brands looking to expand their presence in Western markets.
