Strong Start to Fiscal 2027

Procter & Gamble (P&G) recorded US$23.3 billion in sales for the first quarter of its 2027 fiscal year. This represents a 4% increase over the same period last year. Organic sales, which exclude currency fluctuations and changes from acquisitions or divestitures, also grew by 4%.

Shailesh Jejurikar, Chairman of the Board, President, and CEO, stated that these results reflect the company's "sharpened execution of our integrated strategy." P&G's updated guidance for fiscal 2027 projects all-in sales growth between 2% and 4%, while organic sales growth is expected to range from 1% to 3% compared to the prior year.

Beauty Segment Performance

The consumer goods giant's beauty segment, home to brands such as Olay and Herbal Essences, achieved a 5% increase in organic sales compared to the previous year. This growth was significantly influenced by its hair care division, which reported mid-single digit organic sales increases.

Factors contributing to hair care's performance included innovation-based pricing strategies in North America and Latin America, a favorable product mix, and higher unit volumes. P&G's personal care division also saw mid-single digit organic sales growth, primarily due to volume expansion in Greater China and Europe, alongside a beneficial product mix.

Grooming and Strategic Acquisitions

P&G's grooming segment also contributed to the strong quarter, with organic sales rising 5% year-over-year. This was largely driven by innovation-based pricing, particularly within the North American market. The company has also expanded its health solutions portfolio through recent acquisitions. On 1 October 2026, P&G completed the acquisition of supplement brand Thorne.

Earlier, in January 2026, it acquired Wonderbelly, a "clean" digestive health brand, for an undisclosed sum, reinforcing its commitment to diverse health offerings and evolving consumer preferences.

Implications for Asia's Beauty Market

P&G's reported volume growth in personal care for Greater China suggests continued investment and focus on this key Asian market. The company's strategy of delivering "superior products at a superior value" through innovation-based pricing, as seen in its hair care and grooming divisions, could intensify competition for local beauty brands in Asia.

Asian manufacturers and ingredient suppliers may find opportunities in P&G's emphasis on diverse health solutions, particularly as it integrates new acquisitions like Thorne and Wonderbelly into its broader portfolio. This could lead to increased demand for specialized ingredients or contract manufacturing services that align with P&G's expanding product categories.
