Aptar Beauty Adapts Dispensing for Asia's Dermocosmetics, India
Aptar Beauty is adjusting its dispensing systems and material science to meet shifts in the global beauty market, including growing dermocosmetics, new regulatory demands, and strong activity in India and South Asia.

Aptar Beauty Navigates Evolving Global Market
Aptar Beauty, a specialist in dispensing systems, reports that global beauty markets are stabilizing, with Xavier Joseph, Global Vice-President of Marketing & Innovation, stating an annual growth rate of 4%.
Joseph notes that while geopolitical uncertainties affect supply chains and industry decisions, the main challenge is managing shifts in an increasingly complex and diverse market. These changes redefine brand expectations for packaging and dispensing systems.
Joseph views these as opportunities, citing consistent demand across Aptar's dispensing categories despite market polarization. This includes the coexistence of ultra-premium niche fragrances with accessible body mists, and strong dermocosmetics performance alongside private label growth in skincare.
Material Science Adapts to New Formulations
Significant shifts in beauty formulations are driving changes in material science for dispensing systems. The rise of alcohol-free fragrances and highly viscous textures requires new pump technologies, as standard systems cannot deliver these products. Aptar has developed solutions for these needs, citing Guerlain’s Aqua Allegoria Perle fragrance as an example.
The company also addresses the substitution of short-chain alkanes for silicones, which can cause certain polyolefins to swell, demanding adaptations in materials science expertise. Aptar's GSA platform already supports highly viscous formulations, demonstrating its capacity to meet these evolving product requirements.
Sustainability and Packaging Innovation Drives User Engagement
Sustainability is a non-negotiable focus for Aptar Beauty, serving as an innovation driver to improve user interaction, according to Joseph. Refill systems, initially an environmental response, are becoming premium items that strengthen brand loyalty.
Clarins' Total Eye Lift eye cream, for instance, uses Aptar Beauty’s patented Gaïa airless system, featuring a metal-based main case and recyclable PP/PE plastic refills.
Aptar is also reducing material usage, developing cap-free aerosol solutions with a Double-Click system, and enhancing recyclability to comply with regulations like the European Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR). The company has removed POM and is eliminating PFASs and other potentially ecotoxic materials from its portfolio.
Medicalization, Customization, and Asia's Growth Focus
The beauty industry shows increasing medicalization, with dermocosmetics and technical skincare converging with the medical device sector. This influences expectations for dose precision and formula protection. Aptar leverages its pharmaceutical division for expertise in developing specific solutions.
Customization also remains a key market trend, with Aptar’s Nomad Refill addressing consumer demand for easier fragrance portability. Furthermore, Aptar collaborates with APF France handicap to improve packaging accessibility and ergonomics, earning the Concepteur Inclusif label for its universal design efforts.
Geographically, Aptar observes a shift in market growth, noting strong activity in India and South Asia. This highlights a need for Asian beauty brands and manufacturers to adapt to specialized formulations, sustainable packaging, and inclusive designs to maintain competitive advantage in these dynamic regional markets.
