Kruidvat Belgium Welcomes New Managing Director

Hong Kong-based health and beauty retailer AS Watson Group has named Katinka Ruikes as the new Managing Director for Kruidvat Belgium. The appointment is set to take effect on January 1, 2027. Ruikes will also continue in her current capacity as Chief Sales & Operations Officer for Kruidvat Netherlands, consolidating leadership across key Benelux markets. This strategic move aims to enhance collaboration and drive growth within the region for the retail chain.

Leadership Transition and Career Path

Katinka Ruikes first joined AS Watson in 2009, beginning her career in Human Resources and Learning & Development. She transitioned to business operations in 2019, taking on the role of Chief Sales & Operations Officer for Kruidvat Netherlands.

Ruikes succeeds Bert Verhoef, who will step down as Managing Director of Kruidvat Belgium after more than 27 years with AS Watson Health & Beauty Benelux. Verhoef will maintain his involvement with AS Watson's European business, serving as Director of Rossmann Central Europe and as a member of Dirk Rossmann’s Advisory Board.

Strategic Vision for Benelux Operations

Ed van de Weerd, CEO of AS Watson Health & Beauty Continental Europe, stated that Ruikes' leadership and commercial understanding have significantly contributed to Kruidvat’s achievements. He noted that combining her leadership roles in Belgium and the Netherlands will strengthen cross-Benelux cooperation and support ongoing business development.

Ruikes expressed her commitment to building on Kruidvat’s strong foundation and growth ambitions in Belgium, emphasizing close collaboration with store and office teams to achieve these targets.

Implications for AS Watson's Global Retail Strategy

This executive appointment in Europe reflects AS Watson Group's broader strategy to optimize regional leadership and foster synergy across its extensive retail network. For the Hong Kong-based conglomerate, integrating leadership roles, such as those held by Ruikes, in key markets like the Benelux region can streamline operations and enhance market responsiveness.

This approach could inform similar organizational structures within AS Watson's Asian divisions, including its flagship Watsons brand, by demonstrating how focused regional leadership drives efficiency and strengthens competitive positioning in diverse beauty and health retail landscapes.
