Humedix Secures Government Backing for R&D

Humedix, a South Korean aesthetics company and subsidiary of Huons Group, plans to invest approximately ₩3.3 billion ($2.4 million) in research and development through 2029. This investment follows its selection for the 2026 World Class Plus Project, an initiative led by the Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology (KIAT) under the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.

The government program aims to support companies demonstrating potential for global growth and to boost the export of medical products. Humedix's participation was recognized at a certificate presentation ceremony in Asan, South Chungcheong Province.

Biomaterial Focus and International Expansion

The funding, which includes government contributions, will advance the creation and market introduction of medical products. Humedix will focus on developing these products using biocompatible materials and functional peptides. The company also intends to use this project to broaden its international sales footprint, specifically targeting markets in North America and Europe.

Humedix reported that exports constituted 21% of its total sales in 2025, indicating an existing foundation for global outreach.

Strategic Hiring and Future Growth

As part of the project, Humedix plans to increase its workforce, with a particular emphasis on recruiting personnel for overseas research, marketing, and quality control functions. The company also seeks to attract new talent to its manufacturing facility located in Jecheon, North Chungcheong Province.

Humedix CEO Kang Min-jong stated that the selection for the World Class Plus Project confirms the company's material technologies and potential for expansion, adding that continued investment in R&D and global quality management will extend the reach of its medical devices worldwide.

Impact on South Korea's Aesthetics Exports

This government-backed investment demonstrates South Korea's strategic drive to position its medical aesthetics sector for greater international competitiveness. For Asian beauty brands and manufacturers, this initiative signals increased support for companies developing advanced materials and medical devices, potentially opening new avenues for export-focused growth.

Companies in the professional aesthetics space should note the emphasis on biocompatible materials and functional peptides, as these areas may see accelerated innovation and market demand through 2029, driven by government incentives.
