New Fragrance Design Centre in Grasse

Mane, a French flavor and fragrance manufacturer, is investing EUR 45 million to construct a new Fragrance Design Centre in Grasse, France. The company laid the foundation stone for the facility in Bar-sur-Loup, within the Grasse region, in late September 2026. This 8,900 square meter site is scheduled for completion in 2028.

It will serve as a central hub for Mane's consumer goods fragrance development, accommodating approximately 250 specialists, including perfumers, evaluators, and scientific experts.

Enhancing Creation and Development

The new center is designed to consolidate Mane's capabilities across fragrance creation, evaluation, and development for its consumer goods business. It will house various teams, from perfumers and evaluators to scientific and technical staff, aiming to enhance the group's offerings.

Samantha Mane, the group's President, stated that the project reinforces Mane's historical presence in Grasse while preparing for the future of fragrance innovation. The center will serve both clients and internal teams.

Focus on Environmental Performance

Environmental performance is a key focus for the new facility. The building's design adheres to France’s RE2020 environmental regulations, which set specific standards for energy performance and ecological impact. The project incorporates rooftop photovoltaic panels with a 178 kWp capacity.

This renewable energy generation is expected to reduce the center's electricity consumption and its carbon footprint, aligning with growing industry demands for environmental and social responsibility, particularly from clients across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.

Implications for Asia's Fragrance Industry

This significant investment by Mane in fragrance research and development capacity could influence global fragrance trends and ingredient innovation. While the center primarily supports clients across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, the resulting advancements in naturalness, performance, and sustainability may set new benchmarks for the wider industry.

Asian beauty brands and fragrance suppliers should observe these developments to maintain competitiveness, particularly if they aim to expand into Western markets or if global brands with a presence in Asia begin to incorporate these new fragrance technologies. This could drive similar investments in R&D infrastructure within Asia to match evolving consumer expectations.
