Sensai Re-enters Haircare, Expands Asia Pacific and Travel Retail
Japanese luxury brand Sensai, a Kao Group entity, has re-entered the premium hair and scalp care category. This move supports its global expansion, including new travel retail locations and market entries in Southeast Asia.

Sensai Returns to Haircare, Global Strategy Focus
Sensai, a luxury beauty brand under Kao Group, has re-entered the premium hair and scalp care category. This initiative is part of Kao Group’s broader Global Top Sharp strategy, which focuses investment on brands and categories where the group aims to establish strong market positions.
Sensai states its return to haircare builds on its existing presence in luxury skincare and makeup. The brand plans to highlight new developments, including those centered on its Double Moisturising ritual and a selection of bestsellers, at the TFWA World Exhibition in Cannes from September 27 to October 1.
Julien Noilou, Sensai EMEA General Manager, commented that the haircare re-entry is a "natural extension" of the brand's offerings.
Expanding European Travel Retail Footprint
Sensai is expanding its international presence, with a focus on global travel retail. The brand recently opened new retail points at Warsaw Chopin Airport, Václav Havel Airport Prague, and Milan Malpensa Airport. An additional launch is scheduled for Rome Fiumicino Airport by the end of 2026.
In the Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) region, Sensai reported a +5% year-to-date growth. The company noted good performance in established markets such as Italy, Germany, Poland, and Sweden. Sensai also showed gains in Türkiye, supported by local partnerships and increased brand visibility, according to the brand.
Targeting Southeast Asia for Growth
Across the Asia Pacific region, Sensai is extending its market reach. Following a recent launch in Indonesia, the brand has identified Thailand as its next strategic market entry. This expansion into Southeast Asia shows Sensai's focus on key growth territories.
The company plans to share its latest innovations and future vision with business partners at the upcoming TFWA World Exhibition. Sensai’s ongoing development of its SAHO ritual and Double Moisturising philosophy aims to engage luxury beauty consumers across various categories and sales channels globally.
Asia Impact: Competition and Category Innovation
Sensai's targeted expansion into Southeast Asian markets like Indonesia and Thailand will likely intensify competition for luxury beauty brands already operating there. Local retailers and distributors in Southeast Asia may see increased interest in premium Japanese beauty concepts, which could influence inventory decisions and partnership strategies.
For Asian beauty brands, Sensai's re-entry into haircare suggests a growing premium segment across product categories. This trend could drive further innovation in scalp care and luxury hair formulations to meet evolving consumer demand within the region.
